it’s going on 41 years of “rural” living here. have had the 5 acres, big garden, sheep, cats, and dogs. found ways to almost make a living…

but the greatest thing about rural living is knowing neighbors who are not like you–who don’t go to church with you, read same books, vote same ticket, etc. And somehow, get along..

i look at last 50 years as failure of suburbs and car economy. towns and urban neighborhoods where it’s at.

so give us some of that good portland urban neighborly stuff too, enjoy while you’re there, and come join me in joseph sometime soon.

  3. I’ve used our pitch fork to move many loads of that good old horse and cow manure for the past fifteen years on our place. I should have used it on the neighbors dog after the second attack of our goat and many dead chickens, but I held back. The pitch fork is really quite an amazing tool and it sounds cool in the title of this book.
I hope I can help with some of your questions on farm stuff.
We have come a long way with our land, chickens, goats, turkeys, and wood burning devices for heat and pottery. The best part about being out in the country is walking through the garden and eating your way from one end to the other.
